Overview and search

The app opens on the Overview. It shows which system you manage (the host, the running generation with its NixOS version and the flake folder), one search field for everything the app knows and tiles that lead to the main sections.

Searching everything

Type into the search field. A list opens below it as soon as something matches, grouped by where the hits come from:

  • Pages, Actions and Settings: the sections of the app, things to do (such as “Rebuild and switch” or “Update all inputs”) and the fields of the Settings page. Other words work too, for example “rollback” finds Generations.
  • NixOS options: the same search as on the Options page, with the current value or the default.
  • Set in your flake: options your own files set, with the file.
  • Home Manager: the options of the user chosen on the Home Manager page (only when the host uses Home Manager).
  • Packages: the same search as on the Packages page.
  • Programs: packages that provide a program of that name. This needs the nix-index database (see Search by command) and appears a moment after the other hits.
  • Inputs, Generations and History: flake inputs by name or source, generations by number, date, NixOS version or kernel, and earlier applies by date or what they changed.

Each group shows its best hits. All … in Options (or Packages, Configured, Home Manager) opens that section with the same search. Values that are true or false are shown in colour, so you see at a glance what is on.

The arrow keys move through the hits, Enter opens the highlighted one and Esc closes the list. Clicking a hit opens it too:

  • an option or package opens its details next to the list,
  • an input, generation or history entry opens its section,
  • an action runs right away, like its button elsewhere. A rebuild or an update then shows its output in the Console.

Sections

Below the search, a tile for each main section says what is there now: the number of options and installed packages, the running generation, staged changes and flake inputs. Inputs show how many updates are available once they were checked on the Inputs page.
